WIC Golden Passport program for
Relative Caregivers

     Are you a relative raising a small child between the ages of 0 – 5 years?
     Are you a grandparent raising a grandchild between the ages of 0 – 5 years?

The Riverside County Department of Public Health Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program understands your courageous and challenging situation and wants to assist you in providing the best possible future for your young charge.

Relative CaregiverThe WIC Golden Passport Program was specially designed to provide you easy assess to the WIC program and its many services. Our goal is to make your experience with WIC convenient and friendly.

All services and information obtained and provided through WIC is strictly confidential.

 

What does the WIC Golden Passport Program provide?
• Special vouchers to purchase healthy food for your child
• Nutrition education classes in a peer atmosphere
• Special support classes that address your needs and answer your questions
• Referrals to health care and other programs
• Special contact at each WIC office who is trained to assist you with your questions and concerns.

Relative CaregiverWhat if I make too much money?
You are applying for WIC for the child, not yourself. Your income will not be assessed for eligibility unless the child has no support of his/her own, i.e. Foster Care, Medi-Cal, CalWorks or Food Stamps.

What foods can I get with WIC?
The WIC program provides special vouchers for nutritious foods that can be redeemed at any local grocery stores. Foods available include:
• Formula
• Cereal
• Milk
• Cheese
• Eggs
• Peanut Butter
• Dried peas, beans or lentils, juices
• Carrots

At your First WIC Appointment:

Relative CaregiverBe sure to bring the following to your first WIC appointment:

• Golden Passport card
• Medi-cal card for the child, if available
• Guardianship papers, if available
• Letter from parent, if available
• Any proof of financial support for the child, other than your own, i.e. SSI for child, non-needy grant. REMEMBER, you are applying for WIC for the child, not yourself.

Be sure to identify yourself as a Golden Passport holder.
